Upgrading camshafts can be a tricky thing. Some say that you don't even need to upgrade camshafts. The stock cams shafts are fine. Well we agree to a certain point. Upgraded camshafts are good to have for making more power on a stock valve train. Increases of horse power over the stock camshaft on a stock block will show. With proper tuning you can make more power.
All camshafts are designed with different ideas. Some cams have smaller grounded lobes, that require smaller valve clearances. These are usually refereed to as a regrind. A regrind is something makes the lifts on your camshafts smaller, but also tightening up the valve clearances at the same time, to allow the same amount of air in. This allows the same amount of air into the valve with less turning on the cam that takes away from power that is already present in the motor.
