Honda Prelude Manual Transmissions
The Honda Prelude came standard from the factory with either an automatic or manual transmission. In this article we will discuss why the 5 speed is better than the automatic. Our main point will focus on is that there is less stuff that can break. 5 speed transmission have much less parts and equipment than automatic transmissions.
Manual transmission are more economical. They require manual shifting and driving of the gears. This is better than an automatic transmission because automatics are prone to premature failure because there are more parts to go on them. In general your manual transmission will go around 300k miles if driven correctly. Your automatic transmission will go around 125k.
The main reason why we think that happens is because the automatic transmission ecu starts to fail. It forgets to shift, sensors get older, and respond less quickly. This creates more strain and wear on the transmission. Creating a premature failure on the transmission.
Manual transmissions are much stronger and durable. Reason being is simple, there is less parts. Their are less parts to use, and less parts to fail. The manual transmission is shifted maunally.
The manual transmission also is faster on the acceleration part. The automatic transmission will shift through its 4 gears very quickly. But those gears are much longer and take more power to accelerate through them all. The manual transmission has 5 gears. These 5 gears are shifted in and out at the rate of the driver. But the gears are much shorter, and allow for faster acceleration through all the gears. This is important in racing.
Along with having shorter gears the manual transmission also has syncros. These syncros, allow the gears in the transmission to lock in place when you shift a gear. This is so that when you shift into gear you don't have to keep your hand pushing the shifter into gear constantly.
